Straight from my heart

Hi Reader!

I don't talk about it here too much but most of you know that I am a parent of an adult with disabilities. The word disabilities isn't what makes her unique and makes her her. She does have Down syndrome, Autism and a few major medical issues though. And this creates an everyday world that is different than most 20 year olds.

Each morning I wake up to my cup of coffee and Lily's pill case. She needs to take her thyroid medicine at least an hour before eating anything.

I help her get ready, wash her hair, brush her teeth. I make her breakfast, pack her lunch for school.

It sounds simple. Most parents have done some version of this. But most parents don’t do it for 20 years… or juggle medication schedules, food sensitivities, and tiny details that, when overlooked, can cause real discomfort.

It's not that simple. Through the 20 years of her life, it has been a never ending trial and error to help her live her best life. Task as simple as making sure her armpits are dry after bathing so she doesn't get a yeast infection. Yep, she gets yeast infections in her armpits.

And here’s the truth: I often wonder—what would happen if I couldn’t be here?

This gives me anxiety often! No one—not even her dad—knows all the little things I’ve learned over two decades of being her mom. Not life-threatening things, but she doesn't need to go through the misery of her new caregiver figuring it all out.

I need to get this all out of my head and somewhere accessible in case something happens to me and I'm not here to take care of here.

This is what led me to create the Emergency Caregiver Binder!

Almost 4 years ago, my mom unexpectedly passed away and I needed to jump on a plane to be with my dad. In the midst of overwhelming emotions, I had to quickly throw together all the kids' stuff - medication schedules, all for kids' daily schedules, the list of things that need to be in Lily's backpack for school, all the things to make sure the kids' lives were not interrupted too much.

I NEVER want to go through that ever again!

That’s why I’ve made these templates—to help you (or someone you know) capture what really matters in your loved one’s care. Give yourself peace of mind for the “what-ifs"..

With my heart,

P.S. If you know someone that would have peace of mind with this for their loved one, please forward this email or share the link.

Hi again! Tomorrow is the last day of August and I'm taking inventory...have I done everything I wanted to this summer? My oldest daughter and I recently turned our Starbucks addiction into motivation — we ride the bike path to earn our daily cold brew. It’s a two-mile round trip, and honestly, it’s become one of my favorite routines. Here’s a fun pic from one of our trips! It made me realize: goals don’t have to feel heavy or overwhelming. Sometimes all it takes is a little inspiration and a...
